Working small and making many pieces takes the pressure off any single result. Through demonstrations, prompts, and focused exercises, you will explore color, composition, mark-making, layering, and materials.
As the work accumulates, you will begin to recognize recurring shapes, gestures, textures, and ideas—and see more clearly what belongs to you.

Come Into the Studio With Me
Originally taught as a live online workshop, this course includes my demonstrations, guidance, and conversations about the work as it develops.
You will see decisions being made in real time—not simply polished techniques or predetermined results. You can move through the course at your own pace, pause when you need to, and return whenever you are ready to begin again.

With more than four decades of experience as an artist and educator, I teach with curiosity, honesty, and close attention to the individual artist. My approach is:
Personal and responsive: I encourage you to follow what is distinctive in your own work rather than imitate someone else’s style.
Process-driven: The focus is not on making a perfect finished piece, but on learning through experimentation, observation, and repetition.
Materially curious: Layering, mark-making, collage, and other hands-on processes help you discover unexpected possibilities.
Direct and supportive: I offer clear guidance while giving you the freedom to take risks, make mistakes, and find your own way forward.

Yes. This is a course you can return to again and again.
Each time through, you bring different questions, materials, and experiences to the exercises. Repeating the course can help you:

Bio
Lisa Pressman is an artist, educator, and mentor with more than four decades of studio practice. Her teaching is grounded in curiosity, close observation, material exploration, and the belief that artists learn by making.
Known for her direct, intuitive, and supportive approach, Lisa helps artists take risks, move through creative blocks, and recognize what is distinctive in their own work. She holds an MFA in Painting from Bard College and has taught artists throughout the United States and internationally.
