“Lisa Pressman is a model of what a teacher can bring to the table for students. I have seen her teach, and I’m in awe of her ability to bring out the best. It also says a great deal that other teachers take her workshops. No one–no one–who takes a few workshops and then turns around to teach could come close to what a seasoned, generous and brilliant teacher like Lisa has to offer. Why would any student want to settle for less?”

Workshops 2017

I have been painting and exhibiting since 1979 and received my MFA in 1981. My experience is in various media and abstraction.  All my  workshops concentrate on content, creativity and art making and of course, technique. Revisiting the fundamentals of art including : color, composition, mark making is the focus along with experimenting with materials. I schedule fast paced demos and exercises along with plenty of painting time, personal attention and group discussions.

My specialty is focusing on each individuals’  needs, editing and critique.  Each class is a different experience!

Expanding Your Vision with R&F Pigment Sticks, oils and mixed media will be focused on approaching  painting and the creative process using  R&F pigments sticks, drawing supplies, oil, cold wax, pan pastels and more.

Advanced Encaustic students must have participated in 2 or more workshops addressing  the basics of the technique

I am excited to offer two private encaustic workshops for my students at R&F Handmade Paints in Kingston, NY. It is an amazing studio to work in and you will have access to the complete line of encaustic and pigment sticks during the workshop!

One on one sessions via phone or Skype, addressing the work, goals and future projects of individual artists. 3 hour blocks that can be broken up into half hour sessions.

Recommendation from artist Joan Geary
On a friend’s recommendation, I took an oil and cold wax workshop with Lisa Pressman earlier this year.  I expected to gain a few insights into this medium that I had been working in for some time, but what I got out of studying with her was beyond my expectation. Yes, there were general demos showing various tricks and techniques, but Lisa zeroes in on what each student is about and tailors her instruction individually.  I came away from the workshop unexpectedly discombobulated in the best possible way with an exciting new direction that I had not considered.  She has challenged me to go outside of my comfort zone and push the work toward a deeper and more elevated level. The most exciting thing about it is that I now have a new vision of where I ultimately want the work to go. Getting there is a metamorphosis that will take time, but is in progress. Real change is hard work, but Lisa can push you there if you let her.  She is intuitive, kind, and yet frank about your work.  I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Also, since the workshop I hired Lisa for mentoring.  She has helped me pull my art business together and put forth a more professional face to everything.  Because of her and other people she has put me in touch with, my business has grown monumentally in a very short time.  We also work on the painting aspect, but tying up the loose ends of the business side has been a big boost to my career.

Recommendation from artist Bridgette Guerzon Mills

“I came to Lisa Pressman with a specific set of goals in mind that I wanted to address in my art and my art career goals and she was a wonderful soundboard and guide. I really appreciated the way she looked at my work and my goals and helped me hone in on what is essential to my visual voice, as well as pushing me to really think and delve further. Months later, I am still referring to my notes I took during our sessions and our email exchanges. Doing the mentorship with Lisa was like being given a toolbox full of resources and reflections that I have taken with me and will keep with me for a long time. ”
