June 18 – 20, 2024
Woodstock School of Art, Woodstock, NY
This workshop is focused on using encaustic, which is beeswax and damar resin with pigment, and combining it with mixed media to develop layers that are rich with depth, translucency, and visual interest. Techniques will cover creating a smooth surface, carving, laying line, intaglio, direct and indirect transfers, collage, controlled fusing, stenciling, and glazing. Translucently and opacity in color will be demonstrated and explored. Materials that lend them themselves to markmaking with encaustic will be covered such as: pastels, graphite, inks, collage and R&F Pigment Sticks, water media, posca pens, foils, transfer paper and more.
